A Closer Look at the Rising Star of Hollywood: Jonathan Majors

A Shooting Star!

As we celebrate Black Future Month, Jonathan Majors stands out as a shining example of the impact and influence of Black artists in the entertainment industry. With several major releases in the coming months, including his role as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his performance in “Creed III” alongside Michael B. Jordan, and his upcoming role in “Magazine Dreams,” Majors is quickly becoming a household name in Hollywood.

Majors attributes his success to his passion for his craft and his dedication to his performances. He explains that he does not take his acting lightly and that it is something that he cares about deeply. He refers to the time between “action” and “cut” as “the fall,” where he has prepared himself, both physically, emotionally, and mentally, to take the leap and bring his character to life.

It Pays to be Prepared

In each of his roles, Majors seeks to understand the motivations of his characters and to bring empathy to his performances. For example, his physical transformations for Kang, Damian in “Creed III,” and Killian Maddox in “Magazine Dreams” were all thoughtfully designed to bring the characters to life. In each case, he delves into the background and motivations of the characters to create a well-rounded and authentic performance.

Majors’ devotion to his craft is also evident in his breakthrough performance in the highly rated but not highly watched HBO series, “Lovecraft Country.” He also starred in the film “The Last Black Man in San Francisco,” where he showed his versatility and range as an actor.

Ultimately, Majors sees art and cinema as a way to bring people together and to learn more about each other. In his opinion, films like J.D. Dillard’s 2022 Korean War drama “Devotion” serve as a sort of democracy, where we can learn about others and understand how to coexist and thrive. Majors’ passion for his craft and his commitment to bringing empathy to his performances are what set him apart and make him one of the most exciting actors to watch in the coming years.
